While the design is certainly unique, it is also eminently functional as it's raised design also provides ample storage for the chess pieces. The chess board lifts off to reveal a felt lined interior with a grid-separated slat system to hold all of your pieces securely without risk of them rolling around. The base of this board is made from wengue, and the top features solid blocks of padauk and maple. Each one is virtually unique and only a very limited number of these boards will be made.
